This was an amazing experience. Hanging out with a bunch of young guys who are keeping their traditions alive and having a really great time. The Blue Devils are a traditional Carnival Troop. They’ve gotten a bad rap recently for harassing people, but I think that what they do is in the spirit of good fun. They play the Devils by threatening to take people to hell if you don’t pay them; “hell” is that they will try and scare you, or whine (Trinidad for grind) on you. It seems like a fun concept to me! like going for one of those Halloween nights at one of the big theme parks. The video show the devils getting ready for J’Ouvert night. I really appreciated the low light capabilities of the Mark II when I shot this scene. It handled it really well for just shooting under a sodium vapor street lamp at 1am. I shot the whole scene with the 50mm f/1.8 II because of the low light level of the scene, and the ease of focusing with the lens wide open.
